First Conference of the Parties to the Escazú Agreement to take place from 20 to 22 April 2022 

The first meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Escazú Agreement will take place between 20 and 22 April 2022 at ECLAC headquarters in Santiago. 

The topics to be addressed as per articles 14, 15 and 18 of the Agreement and other relevant matters will be discussed.

Given the health restrictions in Chile and the maximum room capacity due to COVID-19, a limited number of participants will be able to participate in person. Remote participation channels and live transmission will be provided. 

Multilateral Banks and OECD view Escazú Agreement as critical for creating a climate of sustained and sustainable investments

In the framework of the Fifth Meeting of the Forum of the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean on Sustainable Development, a side event was held on the benefits that the environmental treaty poses for investment.

Representatives of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the World Bank, the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) highlighted the relevance of the Escazú Agreement as a critical tool for generating certainty and stability in investments

Call for proposals of official side events in the framework of COP1 open until 20 March 

With the aim of providing spaces to share knowledge, build capacities, establish networks and exchange experiences in matters related to the Escazú Agreement, the Secretariat offers the possibility of requesting official side events in the framework of the first meeting of the Conference of the Parties to be held between 20 and 22 April 2022.

Considering the current health situation, all side events organized in the framework of the first meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Escazú Agreement will be virtual.

The call for side events will be open between 1 and 20 March 2022. Please use the form in the call to request an event.

Preparatory meeting for the first Conference of the Parties (preCOP1) concludes successfully

The preparatory meeting for the first meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Escazú Agreement (preCOP) took place virtually on 4 March 2022.

The topics to be addressed at the first meeting of the Conference of the Parties were discussed.
